Review of the
Aldi Glen Marnoch 29 Year Old.
 The
annual limited release of a few special
premium limited edition whiskies from
the budget supermarket Aldi has
now become a Christmas tradition that is
anticipated by whisky enthusiasts every
year now.
This year their premium Scotch single
malt offering which has gotten the
whisky community excited is the Glen
Marnoch 29 Year Old.
Even though it is a single malt whisky
Aldi have not declared the whisky region
from where this 29 year old whisky
originated from, it has been bottled at
40% ABV and is a limited release of
11,000 bottles and it is now on the shelves of your
local Aldi supermarket while stocks last
and at £39 for a 29 year old whisky
stocks won't last long.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
I suspect there is a sherry or more
likely refill sherry cask or 2 in the
mix but not much, just a hint of sherry
fruit on the nose but mostly refill
bourbon cask influence would be my guess
which gives some pleasant vanilla and
honey notes. Also sweet apple pie and as
you would expect oak but not at all
overly oaky on the nose, in fact you
couldn't tell that this is 29 years old.
Taste:
Quite light bodied in the mouth, vanilla
being the headline note, some honey, a
little lemon citrus, some mature oak
tannin's.
Finish:
Citrus and a little more than welcome
oak tannin.
Comment:
I would say refill bourbon Speyside
casks are probably making the biggest
contribution with a little sherry cask
in the mix also.
It is a pleasant enjoyable dram, quite
tame and not as high a quality as the
sherried Glen Marnoch 28 year old
released last year. Yes it is certainly
worth £39 considering its age.
