Aberfeldy
unveil a limited edition 21 Year Old
single malt which has been finished in
Argentinian Malbec wine casks.
 Introducing the limited edition
Aberfeldy 21 Year Old Argentinian Malbec
Cask Finish, a unique collaboration
between two crafts and two master
craftspeople who share a vision: a Malt
Master and a Winemaker. This release
marks Aberfeldy's inaugural partnership
of this kind.
Nestled at the base of the Andes
Mountains, 1250m above sea level, the
Finca Ambrosia estate practices organic
methods and follows lunar cycles for
optimal harvest. This dedication results
in terroir-driven wines that embody the
intricate flavours of Gualtallary, a
district within Mendoza's esteemed Uco
Valley, known as Argentina's premier
terroir.
The reputation of Finca Ambrosia has
soared, leading to their fruit being
highly coveted in the region. The casks
they use to age their exceptional wines
have become equally prized.
Distilled on November 14th, 2001, and
matured for more than two decades in
Sherry and Bourbon refill barrels and
hogsheads, the limited edition Aberfeldy
21 Year Old undergoes an additional
finishing period of approximately 8
months in the winery's Malbec French Oak
wine casks.
These finishing casks were previously
home to Finca Ambrosia's Viña Unica, a
wine that embodies Winemaker Daniel Pi's
quest for identity and the harmonious
integration of oak. Viña Unica is a red
wine characterised by its pure
fruitiness, subtle oak influence,
complexity, and length, having aged for
15 months in used French oak barrels
sourced from the family-owned cooperage
Mercurey in Burgundy, France. These
barrels are crafted from oak sourced
from four sustainably managed forests
and are subjected to a unique toasting
process to enhance the oak's flavours.
Malt Master Stephanie Macleod and
Winemaker Daniel Pi collaborated in
selecting these specific casks for
finishing. They impart classic Malbec
notes of blackberry, plum, and black
cherry to the maturing whisky. The
whisky also acquires nuanced flavours of
cocoa powder, violet flowers, leather,
and sweet tobacco spice from these
exceptional casks.
Stephanie comments: "This delicate yet
complex Finca Ambrosia cask finish opens
with intriguing notes of sweet, toasted
cereal, herbal sage and hints of
rosemary. It then begins to develop with
ripe strawberries, drizzled in
Aberfeldy’s signature Highland honey
notes and then it’s delicately sharpened
with notes of blackcurrant. Melting to
floral notes of rose and violet, and a
background hint of cinnamon spice.
Settling on the palate the fruit sings
and rejoices, soothing to a creamy
vanilla and endlessly smooth finish."

non-chill filtered and is naturally
