Those of you who believe adding ice to malt whisky is a crime should look away now!

I thought this may have been a wind up or a pretty clever April fool joke when i first saw it but it is very much for real.

Rather than me trying to explain how the ice ball is made just follow the link where you can see the ice ball press in action.

Mac, I dont know what the price is for the ice ball maker but i bet you will probably be able to buy at least a dozen bottles of Macallan 12 for the same price. It is a cool gadget though.

I tried one of these Ice Balls from the Hawksmoor restaurant in London.

I am aware that it is frowned upon to have ice in whisky, but I wanted to try the gimmick out.

They were out of the Macallan, so I was offered anything I wanted, so I had the Highland Park 12. The ice brings nothing to the drink!

I have a photo and my other views on my blog, http://peatandsmoke.blogspot.com/

supersinglemalts, £15.50 for your Highland Park 12 iceball serve Shocked , that is some profit they are making. I suppose they need to pay for the iceball kit somehow. I hope the food was good.

I think I calculated it based on it being a double that over the life of a bottle, they would make 1000% on the retail cost.

Suddenly a very nice whisky had a particulary bitter taste!

The food, thankfully, was awesome. Who can refuse a Longhorn 55 day aged Rump steak?
