A friend of mine has asked me for some advice but I am at a loss as I have never sold anything at auction.
He has quite a few bottles that he is waning to sell due to a big change in his personal situation. He has asked me which auction site would be the best to sell his collection? He is thinking of Scottish whisky auctions or maybe Whisky Auctioneer.
He is hoping to just send everything off in one lot and let them to sort it out.
What would be your advice. |

For me it can depend on the bottles. Some do better on one auction than another.
Whisky Auctioneer charges sellers' commission. SWA doesn't.
Both will take a batch of bottles and offer collection points around the country or home collection if the value is high enough. _________________ Inverness Whisky

I have only used www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com to sell a few bottles and I was happy.
As webdunk says they offer collection around the country so it may be worth talking to them. |

| I have used both when I have needed to purge a few bottles, it depends on if his collection needs collecting or whether he can drop off locally or have a ‘free’ pickup due to number of bottles. I would not recommend one over the other personally. At the end of the day the auction house takes their cut, approx 10% of the hammer price. |

Thanks everyone.
He has gone with SWA and they picked up everything a few days ago.
Talking to him about it, he was trying to work out the best place to get the best price. But it seems to both of us that.
SWA have a 0% of sellers fees with a £6 listing fee then a 10% fee for buyers.
WA have a 5% of sellers fees with a £5 listing fee then a 10% fee for buyers.
So he was kind of thinking that it makes sense that he should go with SWA.
So with the next auction starting on the 2nd of September it will be a nail biting time for him. |
