Hi All,

I am hoping I can get some help.

Got a small whisky collection of 40-50 bottles. Some normal bottles and some good ones I cherish to drink with friends. I do not want to sell them and I do not have enough time to drink them for sure.

We are moving soon from UK to EU and it seems that rules are abit stricter after Brexit.
Anyone has had same problem?
Any idea what are the options?

Any help/feedback would be appreciated.

No idea really, but would be interested to find out as well. How many bottles are you allowed to bring in? I remember travelling with the Eurostar after Brexit with a case of 24 Belgian beers and they did not mind... Don't know about spirits tho. Is there a limit on bottles? Maybe drive a couple of times? If worst comes to worst, you can always drop them at mine, but can't vouch for the fill levels remaining the same .

To my knowledge so far think it is only 1 bottle.

For more than 1, have to pay excise (ok) and vat .
Sadly vat is on current value of bottles....

That is truly the bare minimum, not sure how to help. Might be worth leaving it with friends or family, and have them trickle it over whenever they visit? Or maybe speak to one of the auction houses, like whiskyauctioneer, who seem to have UK and EU offices, they might have some more ideas on this?

I know someone that went over to France in there campervan and he was taking some of his brothers whisky (about 30 bottles if I remember right?) boxes of clothes and other bits and he had no problem or any checks. He was asked why is he coming over and he was going to help his mum how is 86 so they just let him in.

I know he is planning on going back at some point to take more of his whisky and some sofas etc. So we will see what happens then..
