167 Bottles DL Platinum Old & Rare

A chameleon of a malt always changing, this one.
You have to split this one up score wise between neat and with a little water, but it was actually better neat, which i was not expecting.
The palate cannot match the nose but the finish is really good and matches the nose pretty much score wise.
It has been a long time since I had an old malt where there was a noticeable disparity between the nose and palate but the finish was also very good, The palate is good but the nose and finish are much better and you would be hard pushed to think they were the same whisky, strange but also great and interesting

Nose - neat 94 - water added 93
Palate - neat 89 - water added 88
Finish- neat 94 - water added 92

Nose
Very nice, honey mixed with pear, apple, mango and faint hints of lemon menthol cough sweets.
There are also some notes of orange and lemon candied peel and as you go on less lemon, much less, but say hello to a lovely syrupy orange liqueur.
This is one to savoir.
In truth I am not sure how to score this neat, 92,93, or 95, it is really good?
With water:-
More of everything, lovely stuff.

Taste
Neat this is too spicy at first, there is mixed fruit and spice but also a burnt orange note that is too burnt.
But hang on, maybe I am rushing this?
So much spice, so much power, i think water is needed.
With a little water:-
The water has released more spice and blunted the power a little, the sweetness is reduced.

Finish
Neat the finish is massive, so long, so warming, just keeps going,
With a little water.
Not as long, still warming, better neat for the full experience.
