I seen in the Scotsman that The Whisky Shop are planning on opening more stores. This has been inspired by the rise in sales. They expect to add 2 more stores in England this year.

They need to open more stores as they dont compete on the internet with there prices. Still good news for those who dont have any whisky specialist in their local area.

I must say my face doesnt fit in the whisky shop, i have only been in the Buchanan Galleries store but have never felt welcomed. Last week i was looking at a the BIG Peat from DL that they had for tasting but no-one came over to the table to offer me a sample although they were watching me as i was the only customer in the shop at the time. I therefore continued browsing only to to see another gentleman accompanied by his wife enter the shop and was instantly offered a sample which he drank then left the shop LOL. I was intending to buy but but didnt as the whisky shop staff made me feel very unwelcome and not for the first time. i dont think it will ever buy from the whisky shop again.

Bookie, I have had the same experience in the Whisky Shop. I have always been offered a taste when i have been smartly dressed (coming from work) but have never been offered when i have been in the shop in my jeans and tshirt. I always felt they size you up and decide whether to give you a drink based on your look, hense deciding casually dressed people either wont buy or cant afford to buy. There prices are not great so it never bothered me too much anyway.

I've only ever been in the one in the metrocentre and found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. I very rarely buy from there as I think they are too expensive. If you're going to buy a minimum of 2 or 3 bottles it's much cheaper to order it elsewhere on-line, even after you've added on the delivery.
I normally get my orders from Royal Mile Whiskies. |

Hi Sorren
They usually have at least 1 or 2 whiskies available to taste. They usually have a table with a display of of one or two whiskies which they are promoting/tasting. I think most shops also have a few small barrels of there own Glenkeir whisky which you can bottle yourself in store and this is usually available to taste also.
As a few others have said it does seem to be a bit expensive for most of there whisky, i mostly order few bottles at a time online from The Whisky Exchange which charges only £6.99 for up to 12 bottles which is less than what i would pay for petrol and parking and not to mention the time if i was to go to a whisky specialist shop to pick up the whisky myself.
If you ever get the chance to go to a Royal Mile Whisky shop or The Whisky Exchange they usually have a number of whiskies available to try.

Rosebank is probably the best Lowland malt whisky there is IMO, shame it has closed now.
Alastair, i recently had the Old Malt Cask Rosebank 18 year old from Douglas Laing which was very nice indeed and a decent price, around £60 if i remember correctly.
Sorren was the Rosebank you had from the whisky shops own Glenkeir Treasures range.

Cheers Harvey, i may just give the OMC Rosebank a try. I had looked at it before but Jim Murrays review of it in the Whisky Bible put me off it a liitle. As you say it is a decent price.
