Folks,
Just looking for some learned views on this. I bought 3 bottles of Highland Park Cask Strength Release No. 1 In October last year.
https://www.highlandparkwhisky.com/en/cask-strength
I enjoy a dram and have a few specific bottles I like to have in but never really spent much. I think these were £60 each - I appreciate not much in the grand scheme of things.
Anyway, pulled the trigger on 3 of these, half thinking I could wait for Editions 2, 3 etc. coming out each Autumn and build a reasonable collection without spending a fortune, that might be a decent investment - while also having a nice bottle to sip away at.
And if I didn't ever do anything else or they were never worth much more than I paid for them, I've still got a few nice bottles of whisky to drink and offer friends.
Anyways... fast forward 6 months and one of them is open. I must say, very nice stuff and well worth the extra £££s. So I guess I'm wondering if these are ever going to be worth much and I'd ever regret drinking them from a financial point of view, or if they are just for drinking and would never be of interest to a collector, even if future editions were procured? |

I think you've got the right idea. Buy something you like to drink. If you buy a few to keep under the stairs or somewhere else out of the way for a special occasion perfect. If in the mean time the ones saved for retirement or a big birthday at some distant point in the future appreciate in value great sell em and enjoy the proceeds. If they dont by the time your patience runs out drink em.
Just dont die with whisky in the back bedroom that you wish you'd drunk. |
