Any ideas why a bottle of PC5 would not have anything written in the white box on the rear where the bottle number would normally be? Everything else looks OK, but there's not one of the round 'For UK Market' stickers...
I believe the "UK Market" (UK Duty stamps scheme) started on 1st January 2007 so if the bottle was sold before that date it probably wouldnt have a stamp. Although some bottles may have a stamp before that date as they started putting the stamps on bottles of 35cl and bigger on 1st October 2006 but it wasnt law to have a stamp until 1st Jan 2007. If the bottle was purchased abroad it probably wouldnt have a stamp.
PC5 was the first release of Port Charlotte single malt whisky and was distilled (if i remember correctly) in 2001 so well before the UK Duty stamps scheme. Out of interest where did you come across this bottle, have you been offerd a bargain and you doubt its authenticity.
It certainly wasn't a bargain!
It was distilled in 2001, bottled in 2006, still before the Duty Stamp scheme you mention.
I've since been told that it was part of a 'tasting' batch sent to a magazine, but never opened. Everything on the labels looks entirely legitimate and the bottle and packaging are in normal condition.
I guess that closes the issue.
Thanks,
C7
