Hello all, I am currently looking for a nice limited edition whiskey for my son who is currently 1 and I have no idea where to start. Could someone recommend a good limited edition whiskey that may or may not be drunk. Thanks in advance

Crikey, I've heard of starting them young but that might be a bit excessive! Very Happy

Seriously though, you're buying so I guess you decide whether you want to drink it or keep it. Are you buying this whisky just to commemorate the milestone or do you want to buy something that may be viewed as something a bit special and ergo costly 17 or 20 yrs from now? Also is there a specific date that you have in mind that corresponds to the nipper's birthday, opr are you just looking for anything limited out this year?

Nothing over about 5k I don’t think and it’s definitely a keep sake for when he’s older. Up to him if he wants to drink it then or sell.
I have found 3 so far, one for me and two for the boy:

The MacAllan M
THE MACALLAN 25 YEAR OLD – FINE OAK

And for me:
Glenmorangie 1990 Grand Vintage Malt Bond House No. 1

Can anyone shed any good or bad things about these 3?

Thanks

If you are happy to pay a bit more, you could look into some of the silent distilleries, like the rosebank 30 years, release 1. Lots of options!

Hi Whiskey newbie,

That's a great idea for a long term gift for your wee one! I don't know if you seen the below news story but it shows investing in whisky can definitely pay off!

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-somerset-54040307

I can only advise what I would do with such a sum if I was lucky enough to have it.

I would be looking at an investment and I believe the best would be a silent distillery bottle. Scotchnthings already mentioned Rosebank which is a great shout in my opinion. Another option, and my advice would be Brora Distillery. Mothballed in 1983, this distilleries bottlings are snapped up for gargantuan prices at auction and this will only increase as bottles are drank.

I was tempted to go for a Japanese Malt above 20 years old but my guess is they will become more and more available over the next few years which will of course bring the price down.

You could go for one of the classic invenstment whiskies like Macallan or Ardbeg but there is always the risk of another dramatic drop in demand as mentioned above.
