|
|
My introduction to Scotch was $100 bottle of Oban distillers Edition. I'm not sure what it is about it I love so much, but I've tried a handful of affordable scotches and found they weren't really very similar... Like at all.
I've tried Glen Moray speyside classic, Port Cask finish, and 12 year. They were all right, but somehow left a kinda syrupy feeling in my mouth. I've also tried Isle of Slye 8 year. It was good, but too Smokey!
What I loved most about that Oban, was the Heat and warmth it brought into my whole mouth when I drink it. Compared to say the Glen Moray it seemed, at least to me, very more dry. It almost had a quality that made my mouth numb ... in a good way.
I know next to nothing about scotch, but there are so many different ones out there and ranging in price. I'd love to find something affordable that's not going to make me feel like I'm eating barbecue or smoking a cigarette. Also something that doesn't make me I feel like I've been drinking syrup.
So far the best I've found is more Oban! The Little Bay at $50 feels on point
But it's hard to find, and I think I got a good deal cuz doesn't normally go for a 70 or $80 a bottle? Also of course sub-$40 would be nice... |

| GhengisConrad there are a lot of Scotch single malts to explore, I would recommend having a look at the single malts from Highland Park, Balblair, Springbank, Glendronach and Glenfarclas. |

| By starting out on your journey your palate needs a slow introduction which then learns all about whisky , a nice killkerran 12 which is good for a novice and a so called expert. Also glen scotia 15 might tempt you . |

| It’s been a long time since I had an Oban. Perhaps a Clynelish wouldn’t be a bad start I would have thought? |

Clynelish 14 would be my next step, but starting with Oban is pretty much starting runninng whisky-wise! Any campbeltown might also be worth a go, Kilkerran 12 was a good shout.
Bunnahabhain 12yr as well. |
