|
|
| Hi all, new poster here. My birthday is coming up and my wife wants to get me a nice bottle of whisky. I've always enjoyed a dram but am no expert. She has £100 budget and my go to favourites are Lagavulin 16 and Talisker 10. I also tried Ardbeg 10 recently for the first time and enjoyed it. Does anyone have any recommendations of a nice bottle around that budget? I had a look at Talisker 18 and the Distiller Editions of Talisker and Lagavulin so they may be a possibility but interested in your thoughts. Thanks in advance! |

| Talisker 57 north if you like the distillery - especially as I understand that this is now discontinued. |

Actually the Talisker 57 north is excellent.
Other possibilities include Caol Ila 2004 (bottled 2016) Moscatel Cask Finish - Distillers Edition and
Port Askaig 15 Year Old Sherry Cask (70cl, 45.8%).
All under 100 quid each. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Ledaig 18 would be a good fit, with spare change too. |

I'll just throw this in, you'd enjoy it. A different look away from Islay.
Berry Bros & Rudd bottle single casks.
Orkney 1999, 18 year old, (Highland Park) exclusive for Whiskyshop Dufftown is enjoyable, check their Dufftown shop out. This will open up your taste buds to single cask, cask strength and indi bottle from a different region.
Mine didnt last long, good value for what it is. |

For around £100 I would get 2 bottles of the latest Benromach 15 year, I am no big drinker but it is nearly gone after only a few weeks. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

| If you are into your peats, Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength Batch 12. Its a beautiful little peat monster for under 100 quid. |

Hi
I bought myself 2 superb bottles before xmas, both from amazon. I got a glendronach 18 for £91, there's no sherry bomb like it, and a lovely glenfarclas 25 for £99. you won't be disappointed with either
cheers

| Lagavulin 12yr is another one to look at given the 16yr is one of your favourites. It might be younger but it's Cask Strength and a definite step up! |

I hope you paid oaround £60-£65ish for it, seems like because it's going OOP the price is getting jacked up to beyond £80 these days and IMO if you're gonna spend that much on a Taklisker it's better off being spent on the 18yr, which is also being jacked up to above £90 because they've not released new bottlings for a bit I think!
I've got a bottle of the 57 North opened in my collection, Amazon dropped it to £35 about three or four years back and to this day it remains my greatest whisky bargain! :D
It's lovely stuff but quite different to their core range (10yr, Skye/Storm), not quite as peaty and fruitier, but still with that classic Talisker minerally flavour. |

Paid £70 for the last bottle in my local whisky shop, so not quite as bad as the prices online. |

Well done for supporting your local shop.
Mine can’t ever compete with Amazon although god bless him he tries his best! But then I can't get free samples, conversation or reserved upcoming releases through Amazon.
Whilst of course, price is key, I don’t mind paying upto 20% more for a local shop that I know will drop something off to my house within an hour if needed 😠|

| There's a good £10 mark up on that bottle though, which is part of the reason I don't shop through a local store (also the fact that my local shops are in Birmingham city centre and parking is a real pain in the backside), but at least they're not taking the pee like a lot of retailers by jacking up the price beyond £80! |

| Gutted about the 57 North going. The Whisky Shop were selling them on sale at 43.99 during the Summer and I only bought a single bottle but glad I got it. |
