Has anyone taken up the membership for the founders club at the new Falkirk whisky distillery. Hefty price of £698. Really wanted to support as it's local to me but 5 new make bottles doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

Did think about a sherry cask, but at 11k it's quite an investment.

I'd rather neck a bottle of Bells, smash the bottle over my head, then stab both my eyes out with the broken shards than give Falkirk a penny of my money after asking that much just for a membership! Seriously, most of these distilleries really do take the pee with how much they think they can bleed out of their fanbase, but this is just a whole new level of exploitation.

Have to agree, a private distillery of unknown quality asking this much is a blatant rip off. I'm not a business owner and maybe this is why. If it was me I would be hoping to get local community on side, the power of positive communication and promotion is often forgotten. Offer something different for local people to encourage them to visit often, buy into the product. If I spent £700 on the membership I would be reluctant to visit as often and wouldn't have as much free cash to buy bottles, meaning I'm losing out in what is the great thing about whisky.

My best friend thinks all whisky "tastes like Bell's", and I've given him all manner of malts, from Laphroaig to Glenfiddich. He is completely taste-blind when it comes to whisky! I'm thinking about disowning him in 2021!

I totally know what you mean. my best m8 always says he thinks whisky 'tastes like petrol' (this coming from a guy who always drinks carling black label lol). To be fair, he's a bit of a wine lover and quite intelligent in all sorts of ways so i can forgive him his sin, especially after i lined up several types of whisk(ey)'s at the start of the year from Laphroig, to irish to speyside to bourbon, and asked him to try each one to see if he can tell the difference and how they vary in style, and was quite pleased when he said he didnt realise how much they can vary, however he isn't a convert, but at least i did all i can do to educate and he was willing to try !!!. Yeah I've not had the opportunity to give him various whiskies side-by-side as he hasn't been around whenever I've been hosting a whiskey night with my whiskey-loving friends, always makes his excuses. Can't think why! Laughing
