I was gifted a bottle of Tobermory but cannot find any information on it. I was somewhat curious to its value as the chap that gifted it to me had somewhat expensive tastes.
I don't seem to be able to attach a photo but it is aged 13 years, 55.5% vol and has some text on the label that reads:
"This small & famous distillery was founded in 1798, the only one on the small island of mull, situated off the west coast of Scotland. It reopened in 1990 after a decade's silence & produced this single cask private bottling, which was purchased in 1994 by John Newsome. Through careful bottling, without colouring or cold filtration, this scotch whisky has retained as much as possible of its unique island flavour".[/img] |

Hey Evoke,
Can you post a picture? Very difficult to work out what it might be off that information. I had a quick look at the whiskies on WB with the bottling alcohol percentage of 55.5 and both were 20yro's. Could it be a private bottling? |

I've heard of a cask strength 13 year old Tobermory.
Tobermory 13yo 1995/2009 (59.1%, The Clydesdale, cask ref 0281/1173, 273 Bts.) _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

It sounds like it is very much what it says on the label, a private bottling from a cask purchased in 1994 by a someone named John Newsome, then it must have been bottled around 2007.at cask strength and non chill filtered. Being a private bottling there was possibly very little bottling's or perhaps none sold from this cask to the general public.
There is currently a Tobermory 1994 21 year old Old Malt Cask bottling available which was bottled September last year priced £82
Your bottle is younger, from a unknown private bottler so it is unlikely to be worth much given that the £82 for the bottle I mentioned is the shop price, in a private sale you would often only expect to get around half the amount a bottle would sell for in a whisky shop. |

Thank you for this. I must admit I was ignorant to the concept of private bottling but your explanation would tie up with the label on the bottle. I guess I was looking to avoiding sipping away at it without fully appreciating it for what it is not really being particularly knowledgeable on the subject of whiskies. |

I have a 20-year old Tobermory private bottling, the village shop near to where my parents go on holiday in Sutherland do a different cask each year under their own label. I've also a 21 year old Macallan from there, and have another couple of bottle-kills that the distilleries escape me (one may have been an unnamed Islay). Unfortunately this year's was a Fettercairn which after the dreary Fasque I wasn't that interested in, but at between £50 and £60 they've usually been excellent value.
My Tobermory is 55.2% and states that it's "One of 259 bottles from Cask No. 421". |

The image feature does not seem to work, but you can copy and paste it. |

Sounds like Drumbeg Village Stores? Decent bottlings. I have the Benrinnes from this year awaiting opening. It had almost sold out when I was last there but the owner was tight lipped on the next distillery to be bottled. Always worth a look. _________________ Inverness Whisky

It is. Use the embed option rather than the share option (assuming your image is public). Embed will then give you the BB code you need to paste into this forum. _________________ Inverness Whisky
