Casks for sale if you missed out the first time.

Crowdfunder 2 will be launched on their website at 10:00am Monday 6th August.

Casks will be from production at a new site for Dornoch Distillery and matured on site

This time around the following casks available are:

50L ex-Bourbon Octave Cask - Â£2000 / 180 Available
50L American Oak Oloroso or PX seasoned Cask Â£2400 / 20 Available
100L ex- Bourbon Cask Â£4000 / 30 Available
100L ex-Bourbon Oloroso seasoned Cask Â£4500 / 20 Available

Has anyone bought previously. Whats teh deal with this, what do you actually own and are there any other costs involved?

Not familiar with this sort of thing.

I would assume that the prices shown are just for the cask of your choosing and storage for 5 years, additional storage, bottling and labelling taxes and duty will be extra and then you have to collect it or transport it after 5 years or whatever time you choose to store it.

This sort of thing doesn't appeal to me particularly for an unknown whisky and when you calculate how much you end up paying per bottle for a five year old whisky once you include additional costs.

Yeah, I just looked at the prices for the Arran as well. sherry hogshead is approx 2900 plus bottling and duty after 10 years stporage which is included works out a total cost of around 7k. This will give you 350-360 bottles. Works out approx 21 GBP per bottle.

I would suggest that Dornoch are having a laugh at those prices. Outrageous.

This is a money making venture by a tiny distillery set up to make cheap whisky and other spirits.
I suppose every distillery has to start somewhere but there is no provenance on the quality of the spirit and very importantly what about the cask quality.
This is a risky game, unless people pay you money up front it is very risky and remember duties can change over a 10 year period.
However, I have had a Ben Nevis and Port Charlotte private cask bottle that were great but both of these, especially the Ben Nevis have a documented track record

Keeping my eye out, I'm in the ballot but down the pecking order so not holding much hope. If anyone is opening I'm happy to pay or swap for a dram of this ðŸ‘

I know what you mean about losing out these days... my ballot win rate is getting lower and lower that I'm having the attitude not to bother entering to save the disappointment... but I still enter.... and still miss out. Had thought to see if any local shops are selling as I'm in the area with work next week. Welcome any messages from locals to steer me in the right direction,

I've had a miserable record with ballots, so have stopped bothering now a days. But I do have interest in the young whiskies and new distilleries coming up - not just in Scotland and England, but other places too..

I do find it hard justifying the high prices for these young malts though. So when someone like Nc'nean or Ardnamurchan price their bottles sensibly, and make it more widely available, it is always a great thing for the drinkers in general, and also helps minimize the inflation of secondary markets.
