Nose
That is an old stile sherry, stewed to death dark fruits, something almost earthy, embers and smoke from an almost dead bonfire then some date and fig appear and perhaps a little chocolate, I even like the colour, it has a dark amber hue this one.
Put this lid back on and then when lifted , it hit, old Jamaica rum and raisin bar from the 1970's, you had that if you liked the finer things in life, I only ever had it as a treat and then the burning, smoking wood is back but not in a powerful way, but the sum of the parts does not add up, this noses like an old fragile sherried whisky, which is exactly what it is.
Taste
Yes heavy thick sherry with a spice angle is the best way to describe this, stewed dark fruits but also some red currants and a little raspberry is in the mix.
The sweetness in this really grows as you go on this is from real quality sherry casks.
Great balance and the spice adds to the balance but you can also taste some oak e.
Finish
Not powerful and fades a little but this old glory is on the fragile side.
Highland Park certainly do not produce anything of this quality these days, not even close, a real pleasure tasting this one. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |
