There seems to be at least 3 releases a week from GlenAllachie.
Is such a strategy effective? I find myself so bewildered with so many releases that I have pretty much avoided them all so far as a result. |

It's what Billy Walker does, and does well you might argue.
He certainly gets his products out there.
The cynics might say he takes mediocre products and promotes them as premier league
but you can't take it away from him that he is an expert at marketing. His track record with Benriach, Glenglassaugh and Glendronach was exceptional. |

True, I enjoy Benriach and Glendronach (not tried any Glenglasslaugh) but they seem to have a rather defined core set of products with periodic special releases/single casks.
The GlenAllachie releases seem to be unfocused and sporadic, and as previously mentioned, very often. It doesn't seem like much time has been allowed for a core range to be established before releasing special releases/single casks, which removes a point of reference I think.
But what I do know, Walker knows better than I do surely! |

| This is what he does. Asset strips all the best casks then sells up. |

Quick buck. Thousands of casks inherited , get them bottled stick £100+ per bottle, do the sums.
Some are average, some are very good. I've lost interest, too many to try - so given up trying to buy or chase new releases. Actually now have opposite thought when I see new ones on shelf or online, roll of the eyes, not even reading labels or age on them. Lost interest. |

Fair comment actually, as Brown-Forman have probably discovered to their cost. |

| He's not too fussed about replenishing stocks either. Glenallachie has went from doing 17/18 mashes a week to 4. Seems to work though. Everyone buys into the hype. |

No you can`t argue with hios successful marketing and agree with you about promoting mediocre whisky into the strasphere, eventually people believe all the hype. I have had quite a few old Gledronachs and Glenglassaugh that were spoken about in almosy mythical ways that I found struggled to make it near 90 points.
It is all about premiumisation. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |
