Gilbey's , brown bottle, white label bottled early to mid 1970's

An expressive nose, full of cereals and rich moist sponge cake, pastry, pear, , hint of pineapple, and then then the massive cake note returns.
As you go on more green apple that reminds you of apple sour confectionary.
I have smelt something similar to this in some very old blends because it is light and then I remembered, this also smells like the 1970 11 year 46% Samaroli Millburn.
Back to to the nose and there is some banana, vanilla and a little coconut and warm croissants.
Quite a unique nose, similar to the young Millburn but much more pronounced , quite difficult for me score.
The Jury is out because while it is not my thing it is so different and well, tropical.

Well it has enough power and the way it goes down your throat is lovely are my first thoughts.
The creamiest whiskey I have ever tasted it is like mashed banana at firt but then a wave of pepper spice and a little peat enter the fray but it is not as sweet as I was expecting.
Green apple skins provide a slight bitterness and I also detect a small metalic note.
This is a little light for me and in some aspects this is a ltitle thin on the palate but then as you swirl it round your mouth you get masses of tropical flavours and cereals.
As you go on more peat emerges mixing with the cereals and banana.
This is like a tropical Granola mix.
I do not think the balance is top draw but it is better for it , what I call entertaining and the creaminess increases all the time.Smile
Finish

Warm, soothing, elegant, and keeps it's shape, great finish.

This is unlike most whiskies, the only thing comparable is a Millburn Samaroli which is not as nice but shares some yuong whiskey characteristics and some of the best old solid n]blends from the 1940's and 50's.
I cannoit decide if this is a good whiskey or a great whiskey but it is certainly an experience and the finish is one of the best out there it is just the nose that loweres the score a little but still respectable, I am sure Irish whiskey lovers will think the nose on this one is heavan sent Smile
This old Irish is something ou the ordinary.
This sample was the first out the bottle and the fill level was well into the neck.
