|
Anybody think there's going to be a shortage of certain whiskies this Christmas?
This article from CNN doesn't make for good reading:
https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/scotland-whisky-islands-covid/index.html
My takeaway from the article is if there is a shortage, prices will go up!
I've noticed Amazon has notes against some bottles that they will be back in stock in December! |

There is going to be no shortage in my house (maybe ever?) I have over 35 bottles open and now 16 waiting to be opened of which 4 maybe 5 are to be opened for Christmas... |

If anything, the distilleries have had a hard time keeping up to demand. Everyone being forced to basically hibernate for months due to COVID have rendered the shelves almost completely bare.....at least here in Ontario, Canada.
The LCBO has been out of stock of almost anything popular since April. _________________ If Jack Bauer was gay, his name would be Chuck Norris |

| There will be a cut back in production next year. Contracts to fulfill this year. |

Surely that would only be the case if a large proportion of a distillery's production was being sold to other distillers?
Most distilleries make enough to satisy reciprocal agreements and enough for their own (future) needs.
And therein lies the conundrum; how much to make for future demand? |

| Contracts regarding malt purchases and co-products also are a factor. |

Surely as scotch doesn't become scotch until it has aged 3 years; this wont affect this christmas but 2023! Do distilleries normally run the stills all week? When i visited a gin distillery they weren't running the still as running it all the time wasn't needed to keep up with demand.
This speaks of a telegraphed excuse to raise prices and lay off workforce |

| A lot of distilleries run their stills 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, only stopping for essential maintenance |

| Could there be a perceived shortage to support more price increases? |
