Is anybody here a member of either (or both) clubs? Would anyone who is/has been a member recommend if either (or both) are worth joining?

I've been a member of Cadenheads's Club for about three months and I find them to be rather confusing to buy stuff through. They seem to have a variety of different ways to acquire bottles, none of which are really communicated well (aside from a recent club bottling). New releases get announced and are then only available through raffles which took place the week before you found out about the bottle existing etc. Perhaps I'm missing where it all gets announced but I've had as much luck acquiring bottles as a member as I did without being one.

I joined Cadenhead's during lockdown and of course there were shut due to COVID19 for some time. So I have actually been a member for 4-5 months now. I agree they don't have a good online system. But I get a heads up on their new releases through emails, without pricing details. That's because I'm told the prices differ by shops. Anyhow, you reach out to your local shop or wait for the releases to go online on the particular shop website. While I missed on the fancy releases like Chichibu, got a handful of decent bottles with them.

I've been getting the mails for a couple of years but never took the plunge and joined. I'm lucky that there's a Cadenhead's in Edinburgh though which is a really good shop. The only bottle I've bought so far was a Campbeltown malt from the barrel for £48 and they fill it and label it while you wait. They also had an Islay barrel and a rum barrel at the same price. The tastings etc are all in Campbeltown or further which is really no use to me...

Been a member of the Springbank society for a couple of years as well and haven't really managed to get that much out of it to be fair. I think it would be better if there was a Cadenhead's shop nearby. Havent managed to grab one of the society releases either. There are just 1 or 2 a year, and come in relatively small numbers.

I'm lucky enough to live near one of the shops, so perhaps I'd be better off waiting for now. As sadly I don't think I'll be able to go Campbeltown any time soon. If things pick up before the next scheduled Campbeltown whisky festival, I think I'll join the Cadenhead's club.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. |
