| Anything to reduce the temperatures of your dram will have a negative effect on the taste. I could see an argument perhaps in having these used on a golf course in Dubai but otherwise not for me. Neat to have for guests who insist on 5 cubes of ice for every 25ml |

All I know is that people in the US seem to think that our Whisky/Whiskey should be drunk the same as there Bourbon is in the south which is over (ice cooled stones kept in rivers) now they use Ice.
They do noting for our whisky as far as I feel... |

| I received a set of these last xmas. I put them into the freezer with intentions of giving them a try. Have yet to try them. It seems they are destined to reside in the bottom of my freezer for eternity. |

I've had some of these before. They were gifted with a Jim Murray whisky bible at Xmas a few years ago, both went straight in the charity bag.
I remwmber the stones saying something like "perfect for whisky lovers". I found it a little ironic given then the purpose was to cool the whisky and chilling spirits is a way to may them taste less...... as most whiosy lovers like to smell and taste whisky then it seems whisky lovers and whisky stones are mutually exclusive. The same person also gifted me a cut tumbler one Xmas too, it lives in a cupboard with the others infind use as I drink from a Glencairn, or Copita.....Once again, tumblers......bad for actual whisky.
I'm not drinking bad blends in the in a pub in the 70s...... |

They work well for Bourbon which takes ice and cold temperature well - I find the new oak barrell notes can be too intense and need taming. When I hit the amount of dilution I seem to like I'll discard the ice and the stones keep the drink just right for longer. This works well in an 'old fashioned' too.
There's no way I'll be putting ice or stones in a single malt or blended scotch though.... |

| I don't own any whiskey stones. I've seen two types; stainless steel hollow & stainless steel liquid filled & permanently sealed. People that I have seen use them do so in high octane bourbons (hince the spelling Whiskey) to tame the alcohol taste & burn without watering down the drink. I have also seen them used in handcrafted cocktails (now making a comeback) for the same reason. |
