|
|
Hello,
I require assistance with a valuation.
I have a sealed, full, 4.5L bottle of Bell’s Extra Special Whisky on a cradle bought in the late 70s-early 80s. I can’t find any reference on the net to the value, and I wish to sell it. An empty bottle can fetch any where from $20 to $100 on local eBay sites.
Sorry, I can’t work out how to post. The main label has two rampant lions holding a plaque with a bell on it. The label is the correct way up.
The ALC/VOL is 40.0%. There is a number on the lower left- No. 014950 — JDGS
The label on the neck says “ Afore ye go “
The back of the bottle has Bells Scotch Whisky , in large print, moulded into the glass.
4.5L 102mm €( but reversed, and only 1 horizontal line) C 1 appears near the rim.
2309 CTG. Is stamped on to the punt
I would appreciate any information. Thanks[/img] |

Hello!
Assuming it is similar to this then prices a year ago are around £85-100 for a full bottle, though may be more after a year, hard to say, and also may be different in Australia. |

Shop prices are very different as can be seen here https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/37379/bells-extra-special-bot1970s-45-litre-bottle
But auction prices and private sale prices on these bottles are not great as davidbe's link shows, bottles such as these rarely fetch more than a new bottle would fetch today. The prices you see on ebay is often what some seller is trying to get for a empty bottle and unlikely to be what an empty bottle sells for. |

A big shout out ( Aussie way of saying many , many thanks for taking the time to reply) to Davidbe and DanO. You have answered my question that the bottle has no intrinsic collector’s value. Since reading the helpful post, I have talked to two liquor chain stores to find that a 4.5L bottle can be specially ordered for a price about $400.
The cheapest I can buy a 1L bottle of Bell’s Whisky is $50 for a litre bottle, this I have $225 worth of alcohol. I’m happy to sell at a price midway.
Thanks again for your assistance. I had no response from two online Australian sites!
