Hi everyone
I have never tried a Campbeltown whisky and was wondering what one I should try . I am not a sherry fan as such but don’t mind light sherry. It’s the only region I haven’t tried and if I can find a good one a a good price I shall get one to enjoy at Christmas.

If you want to avoid sherry take a look at Hazelburn 10 or if you don't mind a little sherry them the Springbank 10 is good

Springbank is non peated
Hazelburn is lightly peated
Longrow is more heavily peated

Glen Scotia is very slightly peated but more earthy/woody

All are amazing and when I was there trying some of the Glen Scotia whiskys Shocked Top Malt wow

It's excellent, but it's not particularly 'sexy' if you see what I mean. You'll love it if you don't mind mineral, 'natural' malts, but depending on the person it can be difficult to unlock its charms.

I've never had a bad Campbeltown. Has anyone here had a bad one? You can't go wrong with any of them Cobra, seriously. Kilkerran 12yr is very good imo, a good place to start for sure if you want something inexpensive that isn't sherry-heavy just to give you a taste of what the region is about.

Thanks davebe I could not remember which way around it was as Springbank is only about 20/30ppm so just a hint...

Had a few bad Longrows in the past, mainly due to less than average sherry casks and a bag red wine cask or 2!!!

Never had a bad Springbank though.

All of you have given some food for thought I’ve come on a lot in my whisky journey and I like a lot of whisky snow that maybe I wouldn’t have at first. I am now wanting to try more and more different styles. I will let you all know which way I go.

If you are enjoying the 12 then try the Heavily Peated Batch 2.
Quite strong but great flavour.

The 8yr Cask Strength is if anything a touch better than the 12yr as well. The heavily peated is lovely stuff.
