I haven't tried any of their whisky yet but I have read some good reviews considering its young age. Jim Murray seems to have scored everything he has tasted from the Cotswolds unbelievably high, many whiskies 90 plus, which I have to say makes me doubt his independence once again, it may be good but are all these very young whiskies really that good. I have seen some more realistic/believable reviews on here in the past saying it was good but not ranking it amongst some of the best whiskies available like what Jim Murray has done.

I will get around to trying it one day, perhaps when it has gained some more age/maturity

I have never seen it here but I can see James point, a lot of very high scores in the Whisky Bible for such a young whisky, it simply doesn't make sense and makes me question Jim Murrays independence

Been given couple of bottles as gifts and was pleasantly surprised as I thought the same re the age etc.

Like you Ralfy I enjoyed it but I am still reticent to spend my cash on these type of offerings. Moslty because so many of them are trying to persuade us that their three year old is so good they dont need to wait to offer it to the market.

Does this mean their ability to produce fine young whisky matured in brilliant casks far exceeds that of well established distilleries who don't? Rubbish.

We know they need to recoup expenditure its the fluff around it as usual and often the very high price.

Like you James I will wait and see. Hope to be around long enough to see which distilleries make it or get hoovered up by some of the bigger players. Starting to happen already I see.

Cheers..

I almost purchased a bottle for £45 on Saturday but I really struggled to reconcile in my head that I could also get an Old Pulteney 12 for £26 at the same supermarket.
Looking around I can also get a Benromach 15 for around £50 but I suppose something different is good for you sometimes so I may reconsider?

For a new distillery £45 is not too bad when you compare it to the price of the first 3 year Annandale offerings and Bimber etc

The Cotswolds Distillery is throwing some really
good expressions out at the moment, I showcased a
little gem that had matured in red wine casks and bottled
independently by Boutiquey whisky.. Packed full of flavour
and done superb flavours.. Great to see a distillery sourcing
all products locally and doing 100% floor malting..

I've got a bottle of Cotswolds 2014 Barley Odyssey and it's excellent. A really really good whisky.

Yes, it's young, but there's no doubting the quality here. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Don't be afraid to spend the money, it will be well spent.

It makes sense though - English whisky HAS to be good, it can't just lean on its name. It has to stand out in a crowded market.

I have had a bottle of the Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, yes it is good for such a young whisky , it did have a little more maturity beyond its years than you would expect but it was still young and not worthy of some the ratings some whisky critcs have given it. It was a combination of the high praise it has received and my curiosity which prompted me to buy a bottle but at its price I probably wont try it again for at least a few years, What I tasted was a 80/100 whisky, which is a decent score in my book for a young whisky of this style.

I had a similar feeling when I tried Teelings new Pot Still and they wanted about £50-55 for a 3 year old. It was pleasant and I like the new make notes I could find in it. I did not see it being worth the price when Teelings own single malt is less and Redbreast 12 is often £35-40.

I’m glad you enjoyed it mate and I urge everyone to try it as I find it a very nice dram and I know I’m of as experienced as most of you guys but I think it is better than a lot of older whisky out there
