Hi All, first post so please be forgiving of any misdemeanours!
Just been bought a bottle of the 1991/2008 Glenrothes, much appreciated.
Now, as a drinker and avid lover of the 1992/2005, I noted with interest the younger expression of the 1991 when it came out the yr after the 1992. I remember distinctly being a little disappointed, and have since tracked down a few more bottles of the 1992.
I wasn't aware Glenrothes were about to bottle a 1991 distillation at 17yrs old, and I must say imho it's absolutely fantastic. Not being a connoisseur I would just have seen "1991" and assumed it was the younger bottling, but a 1991/2008 is news to me (and, in fact, wonderful news).
Am I missing something, as no knowledge I can get my hands on (inc BBR's own site) alludes to the differences in age...? Can only see differences in the actual label (the older bottling is a darker blue & brown label , the younger being plain white).
Anyone tasted the 2 alongside each other? Do BBR bottle all vintages at 2 different ages?
Any advice / superiour knowledge greatly appreciated.
tia,

Hi SP and welcome to the SMW forum
BBR are an independent bottler who sells both there own bottlings (bottled by themselves) and also distillery bottlings (bottled by the distillery who produced the whisky). BBR are simply selling distillery bottlings of Glenrothes which were produced and bottled by Glenrothes.
The difference in the labels can be due to Glenrothes revamping their packaging.
I must say i am not aware of any 1991/2008 distillery bottlings of Glenrothes and only know of the 1991/2005 bottling. As the label on the Glenrothes is in a hand written style and the hand writing is not too clear the "05" date can be mistaken for "08". The date on the BlueBrown label on the bottle shown on the Glenrothes website looks like "05" to me but could be mistaken for "08" as shown here:
You can see an example of the white label here:
http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/ProductImage.aspx?pc=GRSOB.1991&w=540
The dates look identical to me but then its late and i have been drinking, lol.
The Whisky Exchange have some Glenrothes 1992 /2005 available if you are looking for some more.
I may be wrong but i am not aware of any 1991/ 2008 bottle.

Glad I'm not alone in my wonder! Its definately a 1991 bottled in 2008, standard bbr distillery bottling. I'll photo the label and post a link.
Thanks, all. |

Tasting notes from 05, but clearly bottled in 08.
Interesting. |
