Are there any resources to check the original purchase price of whiskies? We were gifted a bottle of a very rare single malt over 20 years ago, and (if possible) would like to find out its original retail value.

Tell us the details of the whisky and someone here may be able to tell you what it may have cost originally.

It's a 20 year old Brora (1975) 54.9%, with the Diageo "Rare Malts" labelling.

If I recall correctly I bought a Diageo Rare Malt Series Brora 1982 20 year old for Â£120, earlier releases such as your bottle which would have been released around 1995 were even less perhaps around Â£60 - Â£90 I would hazard a guess at.

Yes, I bought a couple of rare malts around that time and the pricing seems right with the Brora being slightly more expensive than some.

The Port Ellen first release was Â£100 I think ........
