Holiday/Vacation Drams

Do you take anything with you when you go on holiday/vacation? Whole bottles? Samples? Nothing at all?

I've got 2 weeks away coming up and still deciding whether to take a supply or let the whisky gods decide for me when I get there...

If my holiday involves passing through an airport I usually aim to pick up a travel retail exclusive bottling which I haven't tasted and have either read good reviews on or if I can sample it at the airport. Other than that I sometimes pack a few sample bottles in my luggage.

All depends upon where you're going & what's available! We were in Dumfries & Galloway in the summer 30 mins from Castle Douglas. My plan was to buy a bottle from an independent shop there. But there were none nearby, so ended up with a Talisker 10 from the Co-op! More than happy with it as I love Talisker, but fancied trying something different really.

If I fly, I usually try to pick something interesting up from duty free. And just try the local drinks/spirits. I went to porto recently, and I never drink port but ended up coming back with 4 bottles of the stuff . Try some sherrys maybe.

The Jerez brandy is pretty amazing over there - gran duque d’alba xo can be bought in supermarkets for a lot less than rubbish whiskies and is worth starting with. There’s little in travel retail that I found either good or good value.
