Was at Lagg distillery through the week which is very smart and the new make is decent enough.
But the guy on the tour said the 14 is pretty much sold out and going to be discontinued also mentioned about September time Arran whisky will be no more you will be able to buy Lochranza whisky and in the future Lagg, be really interesting to see how they do it.
Just a heads up incase anyone had love for the current branding. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

| Interesting, I wonder why they think they should make such a move. |

| Arran whisky should be well established and well known by now, I guess the marketing people behind the move think it is a good idea to rebrand Arran to Lochranza |

Same whisky, re package it with a fancy new livery and packaging and you can charge at least 25% more, look at Balblair and all the other brands that are re packaging at the moment. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

It may actually be a little selfless in this case. Arran is a small Island. For one of the distilleries to be called 'Arran' and the other not could be seen as either an unfair advantage or as potentially confusion for the market.
Arran have already used 'Lochranza' for at least one of their releases - I sampled it in 21yr form in Milroys the other week and very tasty it was too. _________________ Inverness Whisky

I can see what they're doing with the switch to Lochranza and Lagg.
I think they're taking a risk because Lochranza has been the name of their NAS whisky and because Arran is a more recognisable location for the less aware of Scottish geography. Every brand is born at some point but to sacrifice the established Arran one seems a brave call. |

Do I read that correct that Arran will be replaced with new/original name of Lochranza whisky and in time will be joined by Lagg whisky when they have whisky fit for consumption?
I read Lagg would focus on experimentation and peated whiskies but assumed Arran would continue as Arran.
I think I prefer the name Arran ahead of Lochranza and ahead of Lagg fwiw. |

That's what our tour guide told us. It's all a bit strange as I suspect that any Lochranza peated whisky will be shipped down to Lagg and sold through the distillery shop for the next three years.
Agree a price rise is on the cards.
They have also planted Cider orchards at Lagg and say Cider will be bottled in 5 years although looking at the trees I suspect less. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |
