Just been on Aldi's website and they've got their Christmas spirits up.

This year we have a single malt Glen Marnoch 25yo Speyside at 40% for £39.99

They also have an Irish whiskey again this year, 'Irish Reserve' 12yo single malt for £24.99.

Tried the 25 highland and totally enjoyed that so roll on the 25 speyside, it should be a bargain for me.

May well be 70 UK proof, so 40% abv, will have to see when I pick one up. EU regulations are that no whisk(e)y can be bottled less than 40%, unless it's a "grain spirit". This says it's a Straight Bourbon, so it's a whiskey.

Bit sad that it's all dropping off. I can't help but feel disappointment. I always look forward to the Aldi releases but last year the 1988 Glen Marnoch was ok, the year before the 29yo was very average. There is no brandy, Cognac or Armagnac this year either and the age statement on the Irish is down a lot from 26 years last time.

I appreciate it's hard for them with the market and they're trying to do the right thing with prices, but it's a shame really.

I'd like to see some old Spanish brandy or maybe something left field like a well aged Calvados and some decent aged rum.......never mind!

Still, I'll be getting a bourbon, Speyside and Irish this year, still a no-brainer with the prices.

Yes, last year's offering was ok, and I really didn't like the year before.

No surprise about the younger age of the Irish considering the whiskey boom.

Also, they do have a brandy this year, it's a 32 year old for £24.99.

They seem to be all about the gin this year.

They had that brandy last year too, to be fair it was pretty good and certainly worth it for 25 notes.

So, guessing games start on Glen Marnoch 25 Speyside.

"Burnished gold in colour with aromas of vanilla, spice, citrus and smoke. Layered and complex with a delicious vanilla finish.

Name that distillery Laughing

Popped into my local today, primarily to see if they were selling the 32yr Napoleon Brandy in store, seeing as it's available online, but when I asked a member of staff when they were getting their christmas spirits in she looked at me like I was talking in Swahili, after having to point out to her that the spirits at the back of the store is their regular stock and Aldi get in special spirits for christmas, she just said "oh they will have the release date on the website".

Obviously the staff at Aldi have never visted the Aldi website! :D

Yeah Aldi's website is a labyrinth of redundant links that take you back to the page you're already on, only one of the links takes you to the display of their Xmas whiskies, and the link that says "shop now" simply takes you to the regular whiskies with no mention of the Xmas whiskies, so basically you can't order the Xmas stock online yet.

This link will take you to a page where you can look at the three whiskies in the xmas range, that's about the best I could find.

I know my local store manager and saw him putting out the port and such like on Saturday, so I asked him about the Xmas spirits range. He said that they'd be out some time mid November and he doesn't know what they are getting as they only find out a week before, then on Monday I saw the Xmas brochure in the shop, and checked the whisky which said "available now" - I think not.

Going off what I've been told, and experience from the last 3 years, it'll be next week. Special Buys go out on Sunday and Thursday, so I'm hoping it'll be this coming Sunday.

My guess is that, now that Halloween is over, they've rushed out the Xmas brochure early to get people in the mood; they've been selling the Xmas range (mince pies and the like) for a few weeks now at least so people are probably asking for the paperwork.

Yeah I think next week is probably a good time to start popping in and seeing if there's anything good on the shelves. The Maynard's 40yr Tawny Port is also available at my local Aldi so Port fans might wanna jump on that at £35.
