Hi all. I'm back in Canada after my 2 wonderful weeks in Scotland. I visited the following distilleries on my tour with The Companions of the Quaich (of which I am a member):
Glasgow Distillery
Clydeside Distillery
Lochranza on Arran
Ardbeg
Bowmore
Bruichladdich
Caol Ila
Knockdhu
Lagavullin
Laphroaig
Ben Nevis
Dalwhinnie
Glenfiddich
and visited SMWS (Edinburgh). I also really enjoyed the Pot Still Pub in Glasgow. I attended a special dinner with Jim McEwan and his wife and also presented my taste notes at a special dinner and tasting while on Islay.
I really enjoyed Inverness and a number of small villages like Pitlochry. My biggest takeaway from the trip aside from the great whiskies was the astounding vistas, geography and terrain as we traveled around Scotland; the islands and large bodies of water, the mountains, the Lochs (including Loch Ness and Loch Lomond), the rhododendrons growing wild everywhere, the lushness of the hills and valleys and mountain peaks with flowing water, the peat fields, all are etched in my mind. I was treated very well at the distilleries and had great personal interactions especially with Jim McEwan, a legend on Islay and Bruce Gordon, master distiller at Knockdhu. I particularly enjoyed Inverness and the Machrie Hotel and golf links on Islay. The variety and sheer numbers of single malts available everywhere in Scotland and particularly in Glasgow and Edinburgh are amazing. A successful journey.

Hi James,
Clydeside is quite new but well set up for visitors and clearly a good deal of money has been put into the distillery. The whisky shop is very well stocked with single malts from a number of distilleries-huge selection. The Glasgow distillery is a work in progress and does not have a visitor centre perse. We got special dispensation to be there and all had to where safety gear.. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Thanks William. It's a lovely warm sunny day here at home in Niagara, Ontario. Took a scenic drive by the wonder of the world Niagara Falls and beyond along the Niagara River to Fort Erie. Fireworks tonight for Canada Day. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
