At The Whisky Show in London last Friday I was very privileged to attend the Highland Park launch tasting's of the Highland Park Orcadian Vintages Series 1964 and 1968 expressions.
The 1964 is the oldest in the series, it is a 45 year old single malt and was bottled at a cask strength of 42.2% ABV and has a RRP of £3750
The 1968 is a 40 year old single malt and was bottled at a cask strength of 45.6% ABV and has a RRP of £2250
The Orcadian Vintage Series follows the recently released 40 year old and earlier 30 year old. Over the next 5 years HP plan up to 10 of these limited edition vintages.
Like the 40 year old the 1964 & 1968 are two exquisite single malt whiskies. I did not find them over oaked at all which can be a danger when keeping whisky in a barrel for such an number of years. After tasting these two rare spirits I can say that Highland Park does arguably produce some of the best whiskies you will ever taste.
