A golden ticket has been hidden inside one of 1,000 bottles of Ballantine's 30yo, marking the launch of a new European travel retail promotion: Ballantine's Championship Blend - Golden Ticket.
The promotion, launched this month, offers travellers the chance to win one bottle of the Ballantine's 35yo Championship Blend, Limited Edition No. 5. It will run in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (Terminals 2E and 3S), the Luxury Lounge at Frankfurt Airport and all terminals at London Heathrow Airport.
The promotion aims to increase the profile of Ballantine's super-premium references, primarily among Asian consumers and avid golfers, while drawing attention to the 30yo.
Originally launched in Asia duty free to coincide with the Ballantine's Championship golf tournament in April 2009, the Ballantine's 35yo Championship Blend was created jointly by Master Blender Sandy Hyslop and 2008 Ballantine's Championship winner Graeme McDowell. This marks the first time that any brand in the Chivas Brothers portfolio had collaborated with anyone outside the company to blend a new whisky.
Only 15 bottles were made of this rare blend. One bottle was presented to the 2009 Ballantine's Championship winner, Thongchai Jaidee, another to Graeme McDowell, and a third bottle was auctioned for US$11,000 during the 2009 Ballantine's Championship.
