Is anyone thinking of entering the ballot for a bottle of this expression?

I was tempted (especially as it is for charity).

But £1,470 is a helluva price tag, even for whisky owned (at least in name) by our future King.

A little unusually, they're individuals to 'decide now', as credit card details are required with any ballot entry.

Perhaps not great timing, with everything tightening their belts after Christmas.

It would be interesting to know how many ballot entries they receive for it.

Better way of doing it I think, I imagine it reduces the number of entries that then cancel after finding out they've won.

TWE had done similar on their last ballot, saves the hassle of second and third ballots.... assuming they can be trusted to keep your bank details safe. Good to prevent time wasters.

I'm likely going to put my name in the hat.

Drinking - Too much money

Collecting - Super desirable to many

Investing - The 'starting price' worries me.

Even for collectors never mind investors Royal Lochnagar is not really a desirable distillery,I can’t think of a collectible bottle from that distillery, including the Rare Malts series

You're spot on. Royal Lochnagar isn't generally either collected or invested in.

But I suppose some would argue that this cask is a bit different from the distillery's normal offerings.

After all, how often does whisky come onto the market that was actually owned by the Royal Family?

But I'm very far from convinced that it is a 'winner' in any sense - except that the money raised is going to charity.

Just seen this ballot again on TWE's website?

Anyone put their hat in the ring?

I managed to get a bottle of this, in fact, i managed to get two. My wife has entered it as a surprise present for me! Not sure what to do with two bottles, but potentially not many entries to the ballot!!

I entered on a whim. Unsuccessful.

Genuinely relieved. I can get some great bottles with the money that I've saved.

Bottle number one is up to £7,600

https://whisky.auction/auctions/lot/49705/royal-lochnagar-1988-30-year-old-bottle-number-1

I expect we'll be seeing these en mass in the next auctions.

Hi Buncie

You asked what I'd do with the money that I 'saved' through being unsuccessful in the ballot.

Possibly try and get a 1950s vintage single malt. Ideally something dark and heavily sherried - say a Strathisla.

Or maybe look to get a couple of the new recent G&M expressions - specifically the Linkwood 1984 34yo and the Mortlach 1987 31yo.

Or perhaps, revisit getting the Douglas Laing Port Ellen 1982 XOP Platinum - but only if very keenly priced.
