The Glenrothes celebrates three decades of vintage releases with new travel retail exclusive

The Glenrothes unveiled a new travel retail exclusive at the TFWA World Exhibition last month - The Glenrothes Three Decades.

Available from specialist premium retailers at travel hubs serving the brand's core markets as well as major international airports, The Glenrothes Three Decades retails at €100 per 70cl bottle.

At The Glenrothes, optimum maturity matters more than age - this is the philosophy that underpins every bottling. In the last 15 years, The Glenrothes has bottled vintages from the 1970s, the 1980s and the 1990s. The earliest vintage bottling was the 1971, and the latest the 1998.

The Glenrothes Three Decades celebrates all the past and present vintage releases by combining in one bottle mature Glenrothes from each of the three decades that have produced vintages.

The Glenrothes Brands Heritage Director Ronnie Cox said: "The Glenrothes Three Decades is a most fulfilling and satisfying single malt."?

The Glenrothes is matured in casks of both Spanish oak (Quercus Robur) and American oak (Quercus Alba) which are seasoned with either sherry or bourbon.

Oak delivers up to 80% of whisky flavour. This unconventional wood policy gives the broadest possible selection of flavours, aromas and textures from which to create each individual expression of The Glenrothes, the distillery said.

A combination of many factors, including unusually slow distillation in tall copper pot stills, delivers a sweet and fruity spirit.

Each expression has its own personality, underpinned by the hallmark characteristics of the distillery - ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and a spicy finish enveloped in a creamy texture and with a complex balance.

In his flavour notes, The Edrington Group Master Blender Gordon Motion described The Glenrothes Three Decades as "honey, mixed peel and resin"?:

Tasting Note - The Glenrothes Three Decades, 40% abv
Appearance: Dark straw, clear and bright
Nose: Vanilla, cloudy honey, sherbet, mixed peel and pencil shavings
Palate: Sweet vanilla, orange boxes with hint of cinnamon bark
Finish: Smooth, medium sweet and spicy, good length
