Ailsa Bay Release 1.2 Sweet Smoke is a new whisky from William Grant & Sons, it follows and replaces the inaugural release of Ailsa Bay launched back in early 2016 and for this new 1.2 Sweet Smoke release the folks at William Grant has tweaked the recipe for the peated Lowlander and have launched it with a new look bottle design.

My thoughts on the new whisky here:

I've tried it at the whisky show and I was eagerly waiting for its release. My tasting notes match almost entirely the ones in the review: this is not a very complicated whisky with lots of layers to discover every time you dram it, it does a few things but it does them exceptionally well.

It's also not as deep as some of the SMWS lightly peated releases or some CS OB's, but it has a very unique character and flavor profile that is worth trying. It's a scotch that doesn't fully feel like a scotch - and we all know how wrong those experiments can go, whilst this is in my mind (and palate!) a big success.

Glad to read the review and comments. I tried the first release of Aisla Bay at a bar and enjoyed it. Recently picked up a bottle of this new release and looking forward to opening it at Christmas! Cheers.

So glad you addressed the same Aerstone question which was going through my head as I began to read the article. Very useful that you made that comparison.

I now have a bottle of the new Ailsa Bay and both the Aerstone whiskies to explore over the holidays, looking forward to tasting them side by side.
