Hello,
I recently as in only a month ago started experimenting with single malt whisky. Was told by a salesmen I should stick to single malts just because they are suppose to be better in quality, compared to Bourbon and other types American or Irish whiskey.
Any ways so far I have tried these...
Macallan 12 sherry oak
Aberlour 16
Auchentoshan 12
Balvenie 14 Caribbean cask
I really can’t tell or pick up different tastes yet, all I know is weather it’s smooth easy to drink or just harsher and burns more..
So far the one that I truly enjoyed as I was able to drink half the bottle through out the day watching football was the Macallan 12 .. for some reason it seemed very easy to drink as it’s not harsh or burns or really gets you drunk.. had a nice buzz and kept me happy for a few hours..
the Balvenie 14 seemed spicy and had a kick.. least favorite
the other two were ok.
Any suggestions on what I should buy next..? I’m in Los Angeles so whatever is available here.. also does peat/Smokey mean it’s harder to drink for a newbie ??
Looking for something I can enjoy everyday.. i kind of stoped drinking tequila and vodka, just hit 40’s and I’m starting to enjoy the mellow buzz from scotch better then getting drunk off of shots..
Thanks [/img] |

I am not sure what you can get hold of in Los Angeles but I would suggest you may enjoy:
Aultmore 12 year old
Glen Grant 10 and 12 year old
Glenfiddich 15
Glenlivet 12 and 18
Glendronach look out for the 12, 15 18 and 21 year old
Benromach 10
Peaty/smoky whisky can be a either love it or hate it thing for many, some come to like it. I would suggest starting with a lightly peated whisky such as Highland Park 12 year old and if you like the peaty note then perhaps seek out a heavier peated whisky such as Lagavulin or Ardbeg |
