Hi Everyone,

I'm Tom, currently living in Elgin, Moray (right on the malt whisky trial)

I am fortunate enough to live around near enough most of the Scottish distilleries! Through this i really want to start a collection. I enjoy drinking whisky but thought i would start to invest.

I have started to purchase the Old Style bottling s from G&M as i know these styling of bottle wont be produced again.

Would this be a wise idea carrying on this collection?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Tom

From an investment and drinking point of view I would say the whisky in the bottle is more important than the style of bottle or packaging. There are iconic distilleries that will always be very collectable and sought after, closed distilleries tend to be good investments also and limited releases which have been highly rated can be a good buy.

G&M bottlings very hit and miss in terms of investment. They conform to the older standards in that respect - they're only worth money if that specific bottling is well thought of.

Your best bet is to queue outside macallan. Wink

Just a few cursory comments. Investing in whisky can be an expensive proposition. There is no such thing as a sure thing for quick gains no matter what you pay for a whisky. However, some distilleries like Macallan have a big following but with so many NAS offerings from them it's a bit of a crap shoot though The WM is not far off in his comment in terms of what collectors are going for these days.
Closed distilleries like Port Ellen also have a great following but tend to be on the pricey side. If you have 10- 20 years to let your investment grow financially, a steady gain might well occur on many limited edition whiskies..

Buy from distilleries you enjoy also so if the value falls you can always drink it.
