Hi Folks,
I guess we should soon know Jim Murray's actual whisky picks for 2019. Any guesses as to what the Whisky of the Year might be in your opinion, single malt or otherwise.

No idea, some people will say no doubt the best whisky will be whoever lines his pockets the most, I have heard that mentioned many times before.
I have no idea if that is true or not but what I do know is that whatever he picks it will provoke much discussion _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

Benromach 20 Cask no. 1. Signed by Prince Charles himself. Must taste like royalty.
2 pennies on BenRiach and Glenrothes (if only Glenrothes did OB's as good as IB's...). |

I wanted to comment on that in my post, too, but I resisted I tasted as part of a flight together with other 5 people a while ago. None of us knew it belonged to the JM gotha at that point.
We all thought it was the worse of the flight (there was an Aberlour, a Hakushu, a Bourbon, an ok blend) and I thought it probably was one of the very few whiskies I'd never want to drunk ever again. We all were quite shocked when the JM reveal happened.
I'd honestly take a Red Label over that any day, but then again I tasted 1/10000th of the whiskies JM has, so maybe it's just the case of opening my palate to a wider understanding of tasting whisky. |

It will be interesting to see if the choice is for example a Canadian (rye), American (bourbon) or single malt and if the latter from what country it originates. The end result of whatever he picks puts the focus on whisky which really at the end of the day is what we as whisky aficionados all promote.

Indeed.
Always interested since I went to buy on his and others Old Pulteney 21 reviews and it is a lovely dram.
I take his reviews like all the rest, reviews. All whisky knowledge is good knowledge in my little world and as always the on line stuff about JMs annual release makes for fun reading. |
