Macallan Rare Cask is a poor whisky and has always struggled to sell at £190-£200.
So, what is Macallan's strategy. How about just re-vamp the box and label a bit and call it "Batch 1 of 2018".
But surely nobody would fall for that, I hear you cry.
Except maybe the person who has just bid £850 for a bottle.
Incredible. |

I've tried the batch 1 at the whisky show and in fairness it was surprisingly good, gotta give them that. It was my 40th or so whisky of the day, so bear with me and my palate at that point, but it isn't complete garbage. Never tried the old version, though.
Now, would I consider spending that cash to drink it? Not even if I had a money tree in the garden: Glenfarclas, Glengoyne, Kavalan Solist... all the sherry I need for 1/4 of the price.
But hey, it's not a bad whisky. Especially if you sell it in an auction. |
