Douglas Laing this week unveiled that its new Glasgow distillery project in the heart of the city, on the banks of the River Clyde, will be named the ‘Clutha Distillery’ and it is set to produce a sherried single malt whisky.

| I was wondering what was happening with this distillery, pleased to hear that the Clutha will be a sherried single malt as there is always room for competition for the likes of the Macallan, Aberlour and Glendronach to name a few |

I assume as they are saying it will be a | Quote: | | a specialist, high end Single Malt with a heavy Sherry influence | they will not be releasing any for quite a considerable time, at least that's my interpretation of what "high end" would mean, I wouldn't expect it to be young whisky. |

| I would read high end as meaning a mature whisky so I wouldn't expect to see much from Clutha until the 2030s, perhaps some limited releases following its journey to maturation such as the way Ardbeg done it when it was reopened. |

No I doubt very much that they will wait that long, almost every other new distillery has put out bottlings after 3 years apart from Daftmill, yes the maturation journey bottlings will come out and then probably some fancy name in very fancy packaging will loads of marketing twoddle to go with various Nas bottles from 3 years onwards.
This is a business and they want to make money and you recoup costs first of all before you make the profit they will bottle as soon as they can.
‘specialist, high-end’ whisky does not mean old, it will mean and equate to whatever they want it to mean in order to help them sell their product.
Why have they named the distillery after a Scottish country dance, anyone know if there is some significance to it in particular regarding Douglas Laing, just curious? _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

They have named the distillery after the river on which banks it will be located, Clutha translates as "Clyde" as it clearly says at the beginning of the article on the distillery. Yes there is also a Scottish country dance which takes its name from the river Clyde, there is also the Clutha bar in Stockwell Street Glasgow which made the news headlines not so long ago when a police helicopter crashed into it, there is also the NHS Clutha House in Glasgow.
My point being Clutha is well known as meaning Clyde and I think an appropriate choice of name for the new distillery given where it will be located on the banks of the Clyde. |

| High end just means good marketting and high prices. Seems the DL vision at the moment. |
