This is my first post malt friends and its a tricky 1.

Is the Wolfburn release limited to 100 UK Bottles too expensive @ 200GBP for a NAS? I am attracted to the limited number but also the history involved here.

Are you prepared to spend £200 for 3yo malt, which you will probably never open?
Why not to buy a barrel of crude oil and wait 10 years for better price? Confused

Got the oil, shares in Glencore Smile

You're right though, I think it will be a gd dram but no Tun 1401 by any means.

Chris welcome to the Forum and your first post. Having enjoyed whisky and single malts for some time, I think choices about what to buy and how much to spend on a bottle is a personal thing. I've learned that it best to do what works for you and your gut feeling. You could have two whisky drinkers imbibing the same bottle and one might hate it and the other love it, even whisky aficionados. Though folks here can help in a multitude of ways in terms of whisky advice and information, the buck stops with you or anyone else contemplating buying a particular whisky expression. If you like in your view the collectibility equation for this whisky expression and have extra funds to spend on it, go for it. That's how I've made decisions about what to buy and you may win some and lose some, but the fun is in the adventure. I might add this approach has led me to pick up some bottles that went through the roof in price.
Very Happy

An inaugural release, especially from a new distillery, especially one that now holds the title of the most northerly mainland distillery, will increase in value over time.

What will that time be and what will the increase be? Well that's the question isn't it, and no-one can give the answer.

If you're buying it for an investment and have a spare £200 then it's worth it. If you're buying it to drink then it's bloody expensive for what it is, but if you've got £200 burning a hole in your pocket then go for it. Personally I wouldnt.

burning a hole is one way of putting it haha. It would be for a collectible but worried it won't 'take off'

If the distillery doesn't take off it may turn out to be worth even more Wink

If I'm being totally honest, I think this release is entirely aimed at the collection/investment purchaser and not for drinking. That's what is it, so if your planning to buy with that purpose then it's a round peg for a round hole. I personally despise whisky investment (lots of reasons about price rises that I won't rant on about here), but seeing how this is being released for investors I can't argue too much Smile

I enjoy drinking whisky <100>100, it is for saving otherwise its an expensive dram. Its a little like my Mazda, its a daily work horse but the Maserati is the weekender. Personally I think Macallan has got scandalous but the markets price is set by us, the buyers.

Wolfburn would have to acquire itself a very good reputation of producing some very good whisky to make any significant short term return on this £200 bottle. It is certainly priced for collectors and investors and not for drinkers. Being mainly a drinker I think I will wait until they release something with a bit of maturity which has been priced to be drunk.

At £200 a bottle I don't think there is much to be made with this one, at least not in the short term.

I have just bought a bottle. Gorgeous presentation. Pricey for sure,, but then very limited.

Although I didn't buy it as an investment, I think that it is a total 'banker'. The demand has been staggering in the UK.

At the asking price it will make money.. I would expect a good return on my £200, how long the waiting game will be no one knows.. I am sure some will sell pretty quickly, they will still probably make some profit..

The sample bottles (both inaugural and general) used for the promo photo-shoot were overfilled (72cl) by hand. So, the fill-level in the photos is well, well into the necks.

However, commercially released bottles (again both inaugural and general) were accurately machine-filled (70cl). Their fill levels are the base of the neck.

So, if you get a bottle, don't think that yours has been under-filled. It hasn't been.
