Hi Shut
I assume you mean independently or family owned rather than a large company. There are a few such as Kilchoman and I suppose you could say Benromach which is owned by Gordon & Macphail |

There are a few big distilleries owned by a family run whisky business. Many of the new smaller distilleries are either independently owned, family owned or are the sole distillery owned by a small private group or company. Such as :
Distillery - Owner
Abhainn Dearg distillery - Mark Tayburn
Wolfburn distillery - Aurora Brewing Ltd
Strathearn Distillery - Strathearn
Ballindallooch - McPherson-Grant family
Kingsbarn - Wemyss
Ardnamurchan - Adelphi Distillery Company
Eden Mill - Paul Miller
Harris - Isle of Harris Disttilers
Glasgow Distillery - The Glasgow Distillery Company
Inchdarnie - John Fergus & Co
Arbikie - Stirling Family
Lone Wolf - Brewdog Ltd
Dornoch Thomson Family
Torabhaig - Mossburn Distillers
Tomatin - Tomatin Distiller Co
Arran - Isle of Arran Distillers
Glenfarclas - J & G Grant
Bladnoch - David Prior
Benromach - Gordon & MacPhail
Daftmill - Cuthbert Family
Isle of Raasay - R & B Distillers
Lindores Abbey - The Lindores Distilling Company
Clydeside - Morrison Glasgow Distillers
Ncn'ean - Ncn'ean Distillery Ltd
The Borders - The Three Stills Company
Glenallachie - The Glenallachie Consortium
Edradour - Signatory
Also one of the biggest whisky companies is still Scottish family owned - William Grant & Sons which owns Ailsa Bay, Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Kininvie distilleries. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

I thought Tomatin was now owned by a large Japanese concern? _________________ Inverness Whisky

You are right webdunk, the Tomatin Distillery Co is owned by Japanese saki and shochu manufacturer, Takara Shuzo Company . I quickly put the list together late last night and was also including sole distillery's owned by a company and I produced the list by quickly by copy and pasting from a file I have. Tomatin shouldn't have been listed given the original question. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |
