Gordon & MacPhail has unveiled the new Discovery range, a flavour led range which will feature three flavour profiles of single malt whisky: Bourbon, Sherry and Smoky which will be presented in colour coded packaging for easy navigation of the range by whisky drinkers.

The new Discovery range launches with four new expressions: Balblair 12 year old (Bourbon), Tormore 12 year old (Bourbon), Miltonduff 10 year old (Sherry) and Caol Ila 13 year old (Smoky)

Certainly eye catching colours and a different way to go about things most indies use a colour coding to indicate region were as you know the flavour profile isn't so clear cut.

As a newcomer to Scotch whisky I have a question: is turnover of complete lines like this, and Jura a regular occurrence? Or do I just happen to be joining the bandwagon at an interesting time?

This is quite a big move for Gordon & MacPhail to revamp their portfolio of whisky, they are probably the original independent bottler of Scotch single malt whisky. I would say they will still be offering the same quality and variety of single malts as they have always done, just presented in new packaging.

Jura on the other hand, hopefully it is exciting times, I haven't tried any of the new Jura's yet but it was without a doubt a huge move for them to scrap their existing established range and replace it.

Great to see another indie moving away from regional deliniation, which is increasingly meaningless.
