Hi all, new here and wanted to pick your brains about a bottle I bought thats causing me confusion. Just purchased what I believed to be a heavily peated Bunnahabhain 8 yo from G &M, the MacPhail Collection, however, the bottling is different than Im finding advertised, My bottle reads 8 years but says nothing about being peated. however, when I scan the bar code with a whisky app scanner, it comes up 'heavily peated" in the database. Any listings/images I come across online show every bottle marked 8 years as "heavily peated" but I also notice they are 70 cl bottles, not the 750 ml that is marked on my bottle. Wondering if anyone is familiar with what the discrepency is....do I have a peated version or not? I did purchase this bottle in the US so perhaps the labeling is different here than in the UK? I know i could just open it up and taste it but wanted to do some digging around on it before I opened it.....thanks!

The standard bottle size is 750ml in the US, so most Scotch is bottled in 750ml bottles for sale in the US market.

I am familiar with the MacPhail's Collection Bunnahabhain 8 Years Old which was heavily peated, as seen here https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/bunnahabhain/bunnahabhain-8-year-old-the-macphails-collection-gordon-and-macphail-whisky/

I am only aware of a vintage MacPhail's Collection Bunnahabhain 2006 which was around 8 years old and unpeated, as seen here http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/bunnahabhain2006.htm

Thank you for the information James, That's the same information I was coming up with...either an 8 year old heavily peated or the 2006 non peated but not an 8 year old un peated. However, heard back from G&M and apparantly the cask for US distribution was in fact unpeated. Crying or Very sad And in further online research I did find one review site that reviewed what seemed to be the bottle I have ~ the bottle sizing was US not UK and it was an 8 year old unmarked for peat. But otherwise I can find nothing else. Gonna check another online retailer near me who claims to have a bottle of the "heavily peated" stuff....I have my fingers crossed but I'm doubtful. I didn't save the screenshot of the ad for the bottle I bought (I sent it to my husband with the retailer info so I could get it for Mother's Day! Very Happy ) but I was certain it was also listed as "heavily peated". Ah well....lesson learned I suppose. Ralfy did say disappointment would happen. Perhaps I can take solace in the fact that this is a discontinued bottle????? Thanks again! Really looking forward to joining this forum...very new to scotch but I fell hard for it in the last few months!

Welcome along ARscotchfan..

I reckon you ought to crack it open and let us know what you think? Not sure I could resist the temptation to open it up and have a nose. Very Happy
