bowmore 1955 40 year old
70cl / 42%
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling
Bottled in a beautiful crystal decanter, this gorgeous fruity Bowmore has been declared by more than one of our customers to be the best that they have ever tasted. After such a long period of ageing, the malt has taken on a very elegant character and shows restrained peat combined with ethereal layers of exotic fruit. A serious, subtle malt that demands the drinker's time and full attention.
bottle number 5 in a wooden display cabinet with a unsigned visitors card where your invited to stop overnight at bowmore to sign the owners book and sample the bowmore 1955 40 year old
£4750

I tried to do business with the original poster, here. If you are thinking of doing the same, I suggest you read on first.
Firstly, Adrian thinks he can get the same prices as The Whisky Exchange, the only source he uses to figure the "market" price.
Secondly, the pictures he sends show absolutely nothing at all. Closed box, certificate and close-up of the inside of the box, yes. The bottle itself? You can half see a fleeting glimpse of its side on one of the pics. Neck? Nope. Stopper? Nada. Back? Tough luck.
Thirdly, price and terms of the transaction are painfully agreed, with bidding and everything. You see, if Adrian gives an asking price here, he is "aware" of the "scarcity" of the bottle and of the "huge demand" for it, especially "from Russian and Chinese buyers."
Fourthly, and this is only my personal experience, four days before the trip to Wigan to proceed to the deal, Adrian has a change of thought: it is now strictly cash only; he "spoke to the banks" who "advised [him] not to trust a bank transfer." Said banks strangely do not seem to know how much their own daily transfer limit is, but still, Adrian will believe "them," rather than the official bank Web site, which indicates clearly the correct daily amount and the time it takes to hit the recipient's account.
Also, Adrian insists on changing the time of arrival in Wigan "to go to the bank and get cash." Of course, that is not possible with a non-refundable, non-exchangeable ticket, but Adrian will show great dedication to explain how to change train tickets... on a different ticketing service. A bit like trying to change an Easyjet flight from the British Airways Web site, if you will.
Fifthly, Adrian will explain how he is in a difficult financial situation and cannot afford to lose money, how he has been burnt before. He will, however, make a fatal freudian slip, saying, 'u may be doing a big deal and im sure u can afford to lose the money if something did happen.' He will never recognise the mistake or apologise for it.
Sixthly, Adrian will never ever pick up the phone when you try to call him to talk through any point at any time.
Seventhly and most importantly, Adrian Lit will blatantly ignore your asking him how he came into possession of the bottles he is selling. The man confuses Macallan and Bowmore and has no idea what photographs to send to prove the good condition of a bottle. Not exactly yer regular whisky connoisseur. He will eventually feel insulted that you even ask about the bottles' provenance, will insult you very openly, accuse you to try to rip him off, yet will provide no guarantee of his own honesty.
Do business with this dodgy character at your own risks.
I am prepared to share all correspondence with whoever is trying to decide whether to trust him or not.

£4500 would be around the going rate for this at auction then you would have auction costs to come off, i would say in a private sale you would be looking to pay around £3600 for the Bowmore 1955 40 year old.
For such a large transaction it is only natural to ask about the bottles provenance and a buyer should accept this. adrianlit reluctance to give info on it provenance and looking at his past posts he could be a trader rather than a private individual selling an odd bottle here and there. The lack of detailed photos of the bottle would set my alarm bells ringing. |
