Howdy folks,
I've recently move to Oahu, Hawaii. It has it's perks, but it's not exactly a whisky hot spot.I struggle to find variety, and the prices aren't good either.
I have recently discovered a bottle I consider a rare find on this little island. For $60USD I can be the proud owner of a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green label. I don't often buy blended whisky, especially not to drink neat, but I've heard good things about this blend.
The one thing that stopped me from buying it right away was that it sits on a window shelf directly in the bright Hawaiian sun. I'm guessing from the thick layer of dust on the bottle, it's been there for a while.
Do you think this will seriously affect the taste? I do really want to try a good blend, and I think this could be it. If sitting in directly sunlight for what could be years will seriously diminish the whisky, I'll pass. |

Hi and welcome to the SMW forum. Hopefully sitting in the window hasn't effected the taste but it is difficult to say for sure but it is most likely fine.
The Johnnie Walker Green label is a good whisky, it differs from other Johnnie Walker whiskies in that it is a blended malt, which is a blend of just single malt whiskies where a other JW whiskies are Scotch blended whiskies which is a blend of single malt and grain whiskies.
Enjoy |

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but you should absolutely not buy this bottle, leaving whisky in direct sunlight most definitely does affect the whisky, this is well known. UV light affects whisky just like it affects everything else, I know from personal experience this is the case.
Think about it, constantly heating up and cooling down alcohol molecules, cannot be good, especially at Hawaii temperatures.
Walk away now is my advice. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

| I have purchased a bottle in the past which had sat in a window for a very long time, the label had even faded and the whisky was 100% fine, I was worried at the time but got it for a very good price which turned out to be a bargain. Just my experience. |

| I love green label so I'm sure you would enjoy it as it's got a bit about it, but I agree with Lincoln, I would not touch it with a barge pole. |

| Thanks for the advise guys. So if you could buy the sunburnt Johnnie Green or a sunshelter Chivas Regal 18 which would you choose? I can only find the most common single malts here, so I'd like a blend I haven't tried. |
