Im tryiing to track down a Whiskey which was rated in JMs Whisky bible 2009.
Listed under American whiskeys, then under Rye is Cougar straight Rye.
I cannot find any reference to this product existing online.
I can find Cougar aged 5yr (corn rye etc.)
Cougar XS the premium 5yr (still corn rye etc)
Cougar Rum (not relevant)
Im currently waitng to hear back from a Fosters Australia Rep who i deal with thru work, but im willing to bet he wont be able to find anything for me.
This product is mainly made for export to Australia, but im appealing for anyone to find a single reference to prove it exists.
I think JM is writing about the Cougar XS not a straight Rye. (surely not)
I have only got the 2008 bible but Cougar straigt rye is also listed in it. Jim rates it very highly with 95 points. At the end of his tasting note it says:
"Foster's Group Australia. To be launched in Australia later this year."
I am sure your mate at Fosters should be able to confirm if it got released or not.
I also noticed Jim rated the Cougar bourbon very highly also but it appears that Cougar is an export-only brand owned by Fosters that is bottled and sold only in Australia.
