The cask strength Laphroaig 10 year-old is a great whisky and epitomises what Laphroaig should be in my opinion. I would open it on a special occasion, especially as it's a gift from your grandfather which he held for a few years. Crack it open, add a few drops of water and enjoy.
Just a note - the whisky is still 10 years old, the fact that the bottle is from a few years ago doesn't change the age of the whisky (which is the amount of time it spent in the cask).
