|
|
Hi all,
I am an imposter here as I'm not a whisky drinker but hoping you kind people can help me out.
I'd like to get my husband a really nice single malt for his birthday and I'm totally stuck. I'd like something a bit more interesting than I could just pick up in tesco.
Looking at his tasting notes, I can see that his most highly rated bottles so far have been:
Glen grant 10yo
Benriach sherry cask 12 yo
Balvenie double wood 12yo
Laphroaig quarter cask
Jura superstition
Knockdhu ancnoc
Based on that list of preferences and a max budget of £65 delivered, can any kind person suggest something that he might like?
I was looking at the Balvenie single cask 12 yo as a possibility and also the Macallan 12 fine oak. I have a copy of the whisky Bible for reference but it's an old one and all the things Jim lists as good are out of stock!
Any advice much appreciated |

| Oh, and he says he prefers Speyside, although as his favourites include a Highland, a Jura and an Islay I'm not sure how important that is really. |

| I recently bought a craigelacchie 13 which I was really impressed with its a speyside. Or I can highly recommend Longrow and Glen scotia 15 which are Campbeltown whiskies. Longrow cost around £45 and the craigelacchie and Glen scotia 15 about £50 to £55. |

The Balvennie DW is a good choice, you can't go wrong with that. |

I will have a look at those Gazrob, thanks.
Allyby, he's already had Dw a few times and it's kind of tradition that I get him something he's not tried before. |

| Hi, I would go with the Balvenie Single Barrel you mentioned. Its lovely in imo.. presented nicely, higher strength and non chill filtered.. Full of fruit!! |

| But doesn't it depend which cask you get? That's what stopped me buying it when I first saw it, the review by Jim Murray for example was for a specific cask number. |

| Admitedly I have only had two batches but not that dissimilar, maybe others can confirm. Another interesting one would be Clynelish 14.. Not much batch variation in this one.. |

| I'd go single cask - whisky broker have some good stuff at the moment in your budget. The 21 speyside or the glenrothes could be fun. https://www.whiskybroker.co.uk/bottles-c-1 |

If it was me I would look at Aberlour Abunadh a real stonker of a whisky or Glenfarclas 15, after these two my choices would be..
Glen Scotia double cask
Paul John select classic cask ( Indian whisky but very good)
Macallan for me is so overpriced for what you actually get..
Good luck. |
