Hi all,

My farther owns a cask of Springbank which has never left the distillery. It was produced in 1992 and has been barreled in a bourbon cask. it is a truly spectacular whisky but after enjoying it over the past 10 years he is now interested in selling it and reinvesting. it is still in the cask at Springbank distillery and there is approximately 101 bottles left.

does anyone know what a fair asking price would be for a whisky like this, and would it be better to sell it by the bottle or sell the entire cask?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Joe

I would guesstimate in a private sale you may get anything from £120 to £200 but perhaps much more. Having it reviewed independently and getting a good review could seriously add to its value.

You will have to consider the taxes, bottling and transportation costs then where will you sell 101 bottles. A Springbank 25 year old will be quite desirable to Springbank fans but it is finding 101 buyers that could be difficult.

You could approach a few independent bottlers to see what they may offer you for it and compare that amount to the costs of bottling and selling it yourself.

Just in addition to the knowledge here... there is a very active and quite sizeable Springbank fan group on Facebook (heading for 2000 members), which would be worth checking out with your questions as well. Search for "It's All About Springbank" or the link is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/160785784299533/

I strongly suspect that they'll be quite excited at the prospects, whatever you decide, and that you wouldn't be short of offers from buyers.
